Current storage approach

Ordinary reading on the production Site does not use a PostHog analytics cookie. PostHog is configured to keep its random analytics identifier in browser session storage. Session storage is scoped to the browser tab or session and is normally cleared when that tab or session ends.

We do not use advertising cookies on Early Retirement Dude and do not use Site data for interest-based advertising.

Analytics session storage

The session-storage identifier lets PostHog associate pageviews and interactions that occur during the same browser session. It does not create a persistent anonymous identity across later sessions. PostHog person profiles are limited to identified users; the public Site does not currently offer public account sign-in.

See the Analytics Disclosure for the event, replay, and masking configuration.

Essential community session cookie

The Site contains an essential session mechanism named erd_community_session for authenticated community functionality. It is an HTTP-only, same-site cookie set only after a successful sign-in, contains a signed session record, expires no later than 30 days after issue, and is cleared on sign-out.

The current public Community page does not offer public sign-in or persistent posting, so ordinary visitors do not receive this cookie through normal Site use.

Calculator links and local browser state

Calculator share links may contain the assumptions you choose in the URL query string. A query string is not a cookie or browser-storage record, but it is visible to anyone with the link. The Site removes those assumptions from analytics events before sending tool URLs to PostHog.

Your controls

Browser controls can clear or block cookies and site storage. Blocking session storage or analytics requests may reduce measurement or replay, but the Site’s articles and calculators should remain available. Blocking an essential authenticated-session cookie would prevent the related sign-in feature from working.

The Site does not currently provide a separate analytics preference control. You can use browser privacy controls, content-blocking tools, or contact us about a privacy concern.

Changes and contact

We will update this policy if the Site begins using materially different cookies, storage, advertising, or account features.
