Update: here’s our net worth. It’s no longer mafungulated! Yay!

early retirement financial independenceYeah, our books are finally straightened out. Everything I transferred from Morgan Stanley to Vanguard is now properly accounted for. This is an all-time high. Hopefully breaking through $2,000,000 in investments this week!

Note that we use Personal Capital to track our finances. I encourage you to as well–it’s definitely the right choice for anybody working towards financial independence and early retirement.

  1. Nicely done, ERD! I finally got off the schnide and began to transfer my many remnant old 401ks/IRAs to Vanguard brokerage…which I believe is a new(er) function for them. Were you able to do so “in kind” to avoid tax penalties/punishments?

    1. Thanks, man. 🙂 Yeah, I was able to transfer in kind and avoided taxes. The transfer process was a little tedious but we got through it.

To take advantage of Vanguard’s management fee and commission structures after the transfer I sold off the non-Vanguard funds I was carrying and bought Vanguard equivalents.

What does “schnide” mean? You stumped the band.

  2. ERD:

Well..I spelled Schneid wrong…but according to Urban Dictionary it’s breaking a streak/drought. I thought it played well with mafungulated. 🙂 As a side…a few of my larceny laced Raymond James funds brought over had ER’s north of 2. Good God, man! 🙂 They were clever about hiding those fees in plain sight. Or at least on page 94 of a small print prospectus.

  3. Aha. Man, I love the urban dictionary. My parents, who are religious and as pure as the driven snow, once asked me something like, “A kid at our church used the phrase ‘Dirty Sanchez’ the other day. Do you know what it means?” And I said, “Well, let me show you this website over here…”
